My daughter also uses "literally" for emphasis.  It drives me nuts, because I am pedantic about using words correctly.

I used to have a similar problem when I was <7.  I took things literally (literally), which often confused me.  When they said Madonna was the "material girl", I thought somehow she was a girl made of material, which didn't make sense because she appeared to be a real person.
