Home computer prices must have gone up a bit.  I remember some prices for computer parts in the 80s, and they were fairly expensive.  And I've seen some old computer ads from the 80s and 90s, and from what I remember, there were times when a home PC could cost anywhere from $1000 to $5000 or so.

And specifically regarding RAM, I rememer up until 1994, RAM could cost about $100 per megabyte.  Computer prices have gone down quite a bit since then.
