Giraffe vs Jiraffe is more interesting though, both those letters can produce
the same sounds... a soft G like Germ, and a J like Jet... so in this
instance either could work... someone just chose G for some reason.

An alternative one that is interesting is Jog, normally considered a hard J
but its a soft Y sound in its country of origin, Denmark off hand?
But not 100% sure off top of my head.
