I cannot recommend anything because I have not done it yet, but I one day
plan a similar trip in reverse.  Go out to California on Historic US 66,
and come back this way on US 60.

I will be interested in hearing about your travels.

If you plan on traveling near US 66, there are probably some good places
to visit and stay mentioned on the US 66 websites.  I have so far only
traveled 66 in Illinois which, if you are coming to Kentucky from
California will be out of your way.
