Several years back I picked up Radio Havana from the San Francisco bay area. 
Cubans were apparently playing around with copper wire attached to a helium 
balloon as an antenna. Genius!

I should try again with my little Sony shortwave now that I've taken all of 
my powerline ethernet adapters offline. Apparently powerline ends up turning 
your unshielded power lines into interference-creating antennas, and when I 
tried listening, ended up just getting static. I could barely pick out WWV.
