During the 70's and mid 80's the two labels ran alongside each other. Fosters is not an original CUB label where Vic Bitter is. Some time after that, I forget who owned it at the time, John Elliot maybe? It was decided to trim the labels, and Fosters was the poor relation to Vic in sales, although well known, it would become the export label for CUB. So we had Vic in pubs and the bottle shops here, and local supply of Fosters just disappeared. I also don't know anyone that drank it by choice, and none of my friends at the time lamented its passing, although I seem to recall some mild concern about it in the papers of the time. Also have to say not being a beer/lager/bitter drinker, all of them being equally as bad as each other, that I didn't really give two hoots about it.
