This was the late '90s that I first went, and I vaguely remember somebody talking about another restaurant having something similiar. If I recall, I think they thought the whole onion thing was Australian, to which I commented that I hardly ate onion on its own. It's always "in" something (and you generally dont know), or its a part of a salad as raw onion.

It is popular though at the local hardware shop, that has a somebody from the community setup a BBQ sausage stall outside (as a way of earning money for the community venture), where BBQ onion would be on top of the sausage (although I generally opt out).
