Subj : 8-Track Vs Cassette To : Warpslide From : Ogg Date : Mon Feb 21 2022 12:06:00 Hello Warpslide! ** On Monday 21.02.22 - 08:08, Warpslide wrote to Vk3jed: W> I've bought so many albums digitally and I probably listened to them W> around the time I bought them, but then they blend in and become just W> another file on my hard drive or thumbnail in in the endless list of W> available options. Yes.. a CD collection was "visible" in a tower, along a shelf, in a pile, or even on the wall (there was even a really interesting storage system that allowed "pinning" CDs cases on a wall in a mosaic arrangment). But an in-your-face system could probably be emulated by having a separate monitor that cycles through a set of CDs every few minutes. When something catches your eye.. you can play it. W> Not too long ago we were out & about and I heard a song playing on the W> radio in the grocery store that I hadn't heard in a long while. W> I can only imagine what must be like for newer artists to try and get W> discovered now-a-days. I had a similar experience recently. It was a self-burned CD (in a thin paper envelope) at the bottom of a pile. Playing it, it had a few skips here and there. The music was fabulous but I didn't quite remember how I obtained the material. The music was NOT on Spotify. It turned out that I *had* actually purchased it in iTunes. W> Where do you go for lossless? I mostly use Apple Music as their entire W> catalogue is now lossless: There are several places that offer it. Look for FLAC. I have partaken in a few of those offerings. One audiophile- branded one offers FLAC samplers. I produced CDs from those and they sound wonderful. I'll see if I can dig up that one. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in Fidonet MUSIC many moons ago. W> https://bbs.lc/KJHPT [...] W> "None of Apple's headphones, however, work with lossless audio. The W> AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max are limited to the Bluetooth AAC W> codec and simply cannot support the ALAC format." Interesting report. It also states: "The feature is limited to "Apple Music" streaming subscribers. Lossless quality will not be available for iTunes purchases and there is no way to upgrade owned music to lossless via iTunes Match. I've ways been disappointed in the PRICE of songs at iTunes. When they initially rolled out, it was 99cents for then 128kbps versions!! Robbery. A couple of other services offered 356kbps. Even though iTunes has upped the quality level, 99cents is still too much compared to the cost of a tune on a commercially made CD. --- OpenXP 5.0.51 * Origin: (} Pointy McPointFace (21:4/106.21) .
