I use my natural recognition to pick numbers that are likely to be unwanted calls, and for those for which I'm doubtful (and answer), I check the audio - there's a number of telltale signs of telemarketers. If I'm calling in any capacity even slightly or tangentially professional, I will leave a voicemail message, even though I hate voicemail. :) ....
