Yeah Canada got on board early.  We had to wait until December 2017 for the law
to change and for most people that meant no wedding until at least January, as
here, you have to wsubmit a Notice of Intent to Marry at least 30 days before
the wedding (that's for all couples, regardless of sex), unless there's special
circumstances, such as the same sex couple who got married days after the law
changed, because one of them was terminally ill and they couldn't afford to
wait the usual month.
