A computer calls you, and when you pick the phone up, they pass the call to an employee. It takes about a second for the employee to pick it up, so you can detect it is a call center because of the artificial delay. There is also the fact that a lot of call centers are really cheap and use no background nopise filters, so you can hear other employees spamming people in the background.
