I actually don't mind total quiet.  The only problem is that it doesn't take
much noise in those conditions to set off my auditory hypersensitivity.  I was
notorious for being able to almost hear the dialogue on the TV in the lounge,
while my parents couldn't hear a thing.  And they never turned the TV up loud. 
Turns out the issue was me.
