Not particularly.

Fidonet is full of dead echoes with monthly autoposts. Usenet-linked areas are often victims of spam. There's the occasional spam post from a web interface.

Maybe I'm not reading the same echoes as you, but most of what I see is that good old fashioned human-on-human action.
