Synchronet can do a few things:

Host a full blownm mailing list.  This works really well, and I use the
listserver here.

Gate an existing mailing list to an echom.  Again, works well, though some
mailing lists have touchy bounce managers, which can be tricky to handle with a
gated echo.

Post emails sent to a specific email address to an echo - useful for
distributing Internet based updates to echomail, if it has a text/plain MIME
type part.

There's a lot of good email integration in Synchronet. :)
