That's true, and IMO part of the role of a moderator is to consolidate or close it up if there's no activity. Fido, for example started consolidating some of the echoes, but getting echoes off of systems is the challenge - it's too easy for sysops to leave dead or disconnected echoes on systems. What I've always wanted is to have a BBS that, when connected to the entire backbone, if it receives a message would auto-create a BBS area and keep a tally of when areas were last accessed. An area isn't accessed for a year? Auto-remove the area. The monthly ghost-town moderator rules postings would break that though. ....
