Quite odd. I have a ThinkPad with a dead BIOS battery and it works OK
after having asked for the Date/Time. Saving any changes to the BIOS
stay put, even at new start. XPpro on that machine.

In most cases the screws holding a laptop together, are hidden under
small round rubber plugs, or in other cases under the rubber feet below.

If you can boot an Ubuntu CD, it's not disabled.
