it may not be an O (oh) or a 0 (zero)... my conversion of some LS_ARRL posts 
has one character, an O (oh) with a forward slash through it that has no ASCII 
or HIGH ASCII equivalent... i have no clue how to make such a character, 
either...

if i've found the right one, there's the 'LATIN CAPITAL LETTER O WITH STROKE' 
(U+00D8) and the 'LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH STROKE' (U+00F8)... neither of 
which live in CP437 that we're used to using in DOS...
