Good evening to you too. Thanks. HG> Knowing that Jean recently had a blockage in the arteries from/to the HG> heart, and that he is only one year younger than I, makes me worry about HG> how he's recovering. PQ> If he'd reading (and I do know he is), then he is fine and doing PQ> well. I can only hope that he's doing as well as I, since I had the same trouble in 2008, and still doing the daily (except rainy) 10 km nordic walks, or 40 km bike tours, and snow permitting 10 km ski tours. PQ>> Ahmm... the "Great Race" is on this weekend, Holger. HG> I do however expect a new weekly listing today, ....... Only a listing for next week, but no Bathurst there, but however when I checked MotorsTV.com at home the next day, there were lstings for three weeks. With a looking glass, I could see that the first instance of the HiLights will be broadcast on oct. 16th. No Live broadcasts as earlier years, of the (V8)Supercars races :o( PQ> Cool. Apparently this year's trophy will be celebrating Peter PQ> Brock's memory. May he RIP. HG> On the Windows front, I'm progressing, and hoping it wouldn't do its HG> old-time-tricks of suddently removing programs. PQ> I gave up on Windows 8.1 after I got a pop-up from Hewlett-Packard PQ> advising that the warranty had expired, and, also being bugged by PQ> Avast warnings about renewing my registration. The other day, Windows 10 decided to upgrade, by itself on the stationary machine. I still don't know if that was the anniversary upgrade that I have read about, but ZoneAlarm, nor AVG did inform me, about an incoming connection, I know that on the laptop, I have set the configuration to not allow updates without my consent, but I'll have to check the configuration of the stationary machine. On an old laptop with XP, ZA always asked me to allow or disallow any in or outgoing connections, but neither the laptop nor stationary machines, with Win10, have so far given such warnings. PQ> Windows used to take some sort of perverted pleasure from PQ> alternately killing running programs. ......... This was not the first time it did allow upgrades, but when AVG did it, I didn't have any objections. PQ> But the crunch for Windows was when it started to kill off running PQ> VirtualBox PCs just for kicks. That I couldn't stand. I knew then PQ> that Windows didn't have a future for me on that machine. This only shows, why I will never allow Windows to run my BBS. PQ> Watch for splinters! :) As you see above, I do . HG> A couple of days ago, it had made the VLC progran unusable, ..... PQ> I've had mixed results with VLC just in the last week, with my new PQ> Linux configuration. But with regard to Windows, I think there's PQ> dialogue via a right-click & properties to show Windows where that PQ> shortcut can find the .exe file. I still have to learn much about all those tricks, Windows does in store HG> On the speaker front, I bought a similar set that I have bought a couple HG> of years ago for my 23" LED TV, that does have a built-in DVD reader. PQ> Mmm... HG> Then, I connected the new set to the TV, instead of the earlier ones. HG> Nice and clean audio from the same DVD as b4. PQ> Ah-ha! It was probably the act of multiple unplug & plug-in actions PQ> that helped. Or, the elevation of the moon. ......... I don't think that was the case. The power was disconnected between the moves. Me thinks that maybe the computer generated sound is digital, but I have yet to find out the cause.
