Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Thursday. ....Synopsis... An upper shortwave trough over the southern/central Plains early Thursday will weaken as it lifts northeast toward the Great Lakes and southern Ontario by early Friday. A moist boundary-layer with surface dewpoints generally in the low/mid 60s will extend from eastern portions of the southern Plains through the Lower MO and Mid MS Valleys, with mid 50s to low 60s F dewpoints further north toward the Great Lakes. A surface low will develop northeast from IA to southern Ontario through the period while a cold front migrates southeast across the northern/central Plains and Upper Midwest. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will likely be ongoing Thursday morning across eastern portions of the southern Plains and Ozark Plateau, northward from eastern NE/IA into WI/MI. While a moist boundary-layer will be in place amid 35-50 kt west/southwesterly 0-6 km shear, poor low/midlevel lapse rates and weak surface heating will preclude much destabilization. This should limit severe potential on Thursday. ...Leitman.. 10/24/2023 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
