Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Friday. ....Discussion... An upper-level trough is forecast to shift eastward/southeastward across the Great Lakes and Midwest Friday, with surrounding cyclonic flow expanding with time to cover much of the eastern half of the country by the end of the period. Meanwhile, ridging will prevail across the West. At the surface, a reinforcing surge of cold air is expected to spread southward across the Plains, behind a cold front that should extend from the Lower Great Lakes region southwestward to the southern Plains by late afternoon. By Saturday morning, the front should extend from the East Coast States to the Gulf of Mexico. Owing to meager instability at best ahead of the advancing cold front, thunderstorm activity is forecast to be limited, with severe-weather potential essentially non-existent. A few thunderstorms will be possible across the Great Lakes region within scattered showers associated with the advancing system, with an isolated storm also possible over Deep South Texas, and a small portion of southeastern Arizona. Elsewhere, inland thunderstorms are not expected. ...Goss/Weinman.. 10/06/2023 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
