Occasional strong to damaging winds may occur Sunday across parts of the Carolinas and vicinity. ....Carolinas and Vicinity... Upper ridging will remain anchored over the Southwest on Sunday, while an upper trough should persist over much of eastern Canada into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Rich low-level moisture is forecast to be in place along/south of a weak front which should extend from parts of the southern Mid-Atlantic south-southwestward into the Southeast and lower MS Valley. Even with generally poor mid-level lapse rates present across these regions, moderate to strong instability should develop Sunday afternoon across much of the warm sector. Deep-layer shear appears modest at best for most of the Southeast, but up to 15-25 kt of mid-level west-southwesterly flow may exist on the southern periphery of the upper trough across the Carolinas and vicinity. As low-level lapse rates steepen, an isolated threat for damaging winds should develop as thunderstorms initially form Sunday afternoon along/near the weak surface boundary, and slowly spread east-southeastward through the early evening. ...Gleason.. 08/25/2023 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
