Valid 071809Z - 072015Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 601 continues. SUMMARY...The environment will continue to become more favorable for strong/severe wind gusts. Some potential for storms to push farther south into Alabama exists as strong heating continues. DISCUSSION...Storms in northern Alabama have shown some signs of weakening over the past 1-2 hours. However, the downstream environment in northern Georgia continues to become more favorable for intensification of this activity. Strong/severe wind gusts will remain the primary threat this afternoon. Temperatures are continuing to approach or exceed 90 F from northern Georgia into central Alabama. MLCAPE has risen to 3000+ J/kg. Another linear segment of storms has recently developed in northeast Mississippi. These storms may be slightly elevated above the outflow from earlier storms. The main uncertainty is how far south any of the current and additional development will go this afternoon. Modifying the 12Z observed BMX sounding for current surface observations suggests that the boundary layer is virtually uncapped. Between the northeast Mississippi activity and signs of development along the southern fringe of outflow, storms may try to push farther south into parts of central Alabama. Should this occur, local extension of WW 601 may be necessary. ...Wendt.. 08/07/2023 ....Please see https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.spc.noaa.gov__;!!DZ3fj= g!7_jTtKHFfemkjUmgfZ-KKWDEM1tvbVvPQxkZBo6GqnsdYhFYk90b-LPYjMVQUh4InA9_DQQsl= EcvTAIGQg6Q1X8pbOg$ for graphic product...
