The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 583
continues.

SUMMARY...An isolated wind-damage and hail threat will likely
continue for a few more hours across west-central Kansas and
south-central Nebraska.

DISCUSSION...The latest high-resolution radar imagery from Goodland
shows an MCS located from western Nebraska into western Kansas,
along the northwestern edge of an east-to-west corridor of moderate
instability. According to the RAP, MLCAPE is estimated to be in the
1500 to 2500 J/kg range across much of west-central Kansas. The
instability, combined with large-scale ascent associated with a
shortwave trough in the central High Plains, will provide support
for continued convective development. In addition, the WSR-88D VWP
at Dodge City has substantial directional shear in the lowest 3 km
and 0-6 km shear around 30 knots. This wind profile will likely be
sufficient for a severe threat over the next few hours, as the
linear MCS moves across south-central Nebraska and west-central
Kansas. Wind damage and hail will be the primary threats, although
these hazards should remain isolated.
