A few strong/severe storms may affect portions of Georgia and southern South Carolina Monday. ....Synopsis... Large-scale upper ridging will prevail across the western and central U.S. Monday, as a cool Canadian surface high settles southward to encompass a large portion of the country. At the leading edge of this cooler continental air mass, a cold front will shift southward across the southeastern states, as a mid-level trough shifts southeastward out of the Appalachians across the East Coast states, and eventually offshore. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across parts of the south-central and southeastern U.S. near and ahead of the southward-moving front, and in more isolated fashion across the West. ....Georgia/South Carolina... As a cold front advances southeastward across the Southeast, enhanced northwesterly flow aloft will spread across parts of the Southeast before shifting offshore. As this occurs, a window of opportunity for a few stronger storms appears to exist, as daytime heating contributes to some destabilization just ahead of the front. If a cluster of storms can evolve, some damaging wind potential could organize and shift southeastward across Georgia and southern South Carolina during the afternoon, before weakening and eventually moving offshore during the evening. ...Goss.. 05/13/2023 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
