Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 197...

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 197
continues.

SUMMARY...The risk for large to very large hail (maximum hail
diameter 1.5 to 2.5 inches) will continue through the early evening.

DISCUSSION...Visible satellite imagery shows a north-south oriented
cluster of storms near and east of the dryline from 35 mi
east-northeast of San Angelo, TX to 45 mi south-southwest of Altus,
OK.  Surface analysis indicates a very moist/warm airmass across the
area with temperatures in the 90s and dewpoints in the upper 60s to
lower 70s observed on several West Texas Mesonet sites east of the
ongoing storms.  Although low to mid-level flow is modest, 50-kt
300-mb flow will enable storm organization and supercells will be
the preferred storm mode of the stronger updrafts through the early
evening.  Large hail will be the primary severe hazard through the
early evening (~7pm) before the risk for severe gusts perhaps
increases with collapsing cores into the late evening hours in the
presence of steep 700-500 mb lapse rates.
