DISCUSSION...A negatively tilted shortwave trough will continue to eject northeastward this morning across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. Large-scale ascent associated with this feature is supporting an ongoing band of moderate to heavy snow across southern/central MN. An enhanced surface pressure gradient in place over this region is fostering some blowing snow with reduced visibilities and gusty winds. A separate band of mainly moderate snowfall is occurring across far northern WI into the U.P of MI. Current expectations are for the southern band in MN to shift quickly northeastward across northern WI this morning, and eventually into the U.P. of MI. RAP forecast soundings across this region show a sub-freezing temperature profile through the saturated low/mid levels. The presence of steep lapse rates around the 650-400 mb layer, which should partially overlap the dendritic growth zone, will probably aid in the snowfall band maintaining its intensity. Snowfall rates around 1 inch per hour will be possible for a couple hours, even though the band should move quickly over any specific location. Eventually this southern band should merge with the northern band, with a continued threat for occasional 1 inch per hour rates across far northern WI and the U.P. through the rest of the morning. ...Gleason.. 02/23/2023 ....Please see https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.spc.noaa.gov__;!!DZ3fj= g!-MWvGQAWTXklqjR-YBHWv-VhJe-4nQur4SNFr52GmI61sOCoIyHSfeEGTQdbvA0G4c8DA0EGY= jrqylvzkhl6j2IZDvY$ for graphic product...
