SUMMARY...Occasional snow rates of 1 inch per hour will be possible
through the morning, as the rain/snow line gradually shifts
southeastward.

DISCUSSION...A long-duration snow event is already well underway
across parts of New England, in association with a progressive
mid/upper-level trough moving out of the Ohio Valley/Upper Great
Lakes and a deepening surface cyclone currently located near/east of
Cape Cod. Transient banding features have been noted in area radars,
which have likely produced at least briefly heavy snow rates within
the larger precipitation shield. Some consolidation and
intensification of these bands will be possible through the morning,
as an embedded midlevel vorticity maximum approaches the region from
the northern Mid Atlantic, and the primary surface cyclone continues
to deepen offshore.=20

Surface observations and dual-pol data from KENX and KBOX indicate
that the rain/snow line has begun to move southeastward across
western MA and southern NH, and this should continue through the
morning with the aid of continued deep ascent and low-level cold
advection. Occasional snow rates of 1 inch/hour will be possible
within any stronger bands through the remainder of the morning, with
this threat eventually spreading into some areas currently observing
rain/freezing rain or mixed precipitation.
