Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Thursday. ....Synopsis... A progressive upper pattern is forecast on Thursday. A large-scale upper trough will spread east over the eastern U.S., while another upper trough moves inland over the Pacific Coast States. Meanwhile, an upper ridge over the Rockies/Four Corners vicinity will track east to the Plains. A surface cold front is expected to be extend just offshore from the Mid-Atlantic/coastal Carolinas vicinity into north/central FL and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. A dearth of boundary-layer moisture in the wake of the front, and building surface high pressure east of the Rockies will preclude thunderstorm activity. A few lightning flashes will be possible across central/southern portions of CA ahead of the approaching mid/upper trough, and within a band of strong west/southwesterly deep-layer flow and cool midlevel temperatures. These storms are not expected to be severe given meager instability and a relatively cool boundary layer. ...Leitman.. 01/03/2023 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
