Isolated thunderstorms may occur across parts of northern California and southwest Oregon tonight. No severe weather is expected across the continental United States today or tonight. ....DISCUSSION... An upper-level trough will move across the Intermountain West today as a trough digs southeastward into the lower to mid Mississippi Valley. Behind the trough, mid-level flow will be from the north-northwest. As a result, surface high pressure will move southward across the Great Plains. This cold and dry airmass will reinforce northerly flow across parts of the Gulf Coast states, suppressing moisture return. Due to this, thunderstorms are not expected across most of the continental United States. One exception will be across northern California and southwest Oregon, as an upper-level trough moves inland tonight. A few lightning strikes could occur ahead of the trough, where large-scale ascent could be enough for isolated thunderstorms. ...Broyles/Wendt.. 12/26/2022 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
