Risk for locally damaging winds and possibly a few tornadoes will spread across the central Gulf Coast region Wednesday. ....Synopsis... An upper low over the Mid Missouri Valley area -- whose surrounding cyclonic flow field will encompass much of the country -- is forecast to move little Wednesday, with just a slow southeastward drift expected. Meanwhile, the accompanying/nearly coincident occluded low is progged to weaken barotropically. An occluded front associated with the low is forecast to cross the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, while the cold-frontal segment farther south crosses the central Gulf Coast states through early Thursday. ....Southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi to southwestern Georgia and the Florida Panhandle... Thunderstorms accompanied by ongoing severe risk are expected to be moving across roughly the southern half of Mississippi and adjacent southern/eastern Louisiana at the start of the period. While a wedge airmass should persist across the northern halves of Georgia and Alabama through the day, areas to the south will likely undergo modest destabilization through the day. This should support an eastward progression/continuation of storms and local severe risk -- including some tornado potential as veering/increasing flow with height anticipated across the area will be favorable for supporting evolution of rotating updrafts/supercells. At this time, it appears that a steady eastward advance of storms/severe risk will continue through the period, reaching southwestern Georgia eastern portions of the Florida Panhandle by Thursday Morning. ...Goss.. 12/12/2022 $$ = = = To unsubscribe from WX-STORM and you already have a login, go to https://lists.illinois.edu and use the "Unsubscribe" link.
