Isolated lightning strikes will be possible in the lower Great Lakes region, in association with lake-effect snowbands. Isolated thunderstorms may also occur in south Texas tonight, but no severe threat is expected tonight across the continental U.S. ....DISCUSSION... A broad cyclonic mid-level flow pattern will exist across much of the continental United States through tonight. An upper-level trough will dig southeastward into the north-central states. At the surface, a large area of high pressure will remain in place across much of the central and eastern U.S. Just off the coast of south Texas, a moist airmass will remain in place tonight. Warm advection may enable thunderstorm development across the lower to middle Texas Coastal Plain. A few lightning strikes will also be possible around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, in association with lake-effect snowbands.
