The meaning of such keys changes when changing keyboards. I see this with the '>' and '<' keys. They only work with the keyboard in Dutch or US mode. With the keyboard in German or Russian mode they do not work, the keys have a different meaning in those modes. Use only non printable key sequences for commands in an envionment where one can change the keyboard to a different character set.
