I've been watching The Voyage Home all night for some reason, so insert a Dr. 
McCoy rant about 20th Century medical barbarism...

And, I keep wondering how Gillian the whale lady, not to mention George and 
Gracie, turned out, and her leaving the 20th Century really just had zero 
effect on the future?

Or did the Next Generation or any of those ever follow up on the progress of 
these characters at some point?

Just curious, sitting here falling in love with 1986 all over again.
