There is just one line, but my terminal is now 120x48, so it wraps. Which is 
ok.

If I remember correctly, there is a default setting in Thunderbird to wrap nntp 
messages to 72 or so.

Yes, "mailnews.wraplength" is set to 72, but changing it to 0 disables the 
wrapping.
