The simplest and most common explanation of this smelly situation is apparent to many people involved in foul smelling occupations and is widely recognized. This brings to mind an experience I had many years ago. There was a rendering plant where dead farm animals (horses and cattle) were, shall we say recycled. The odors generated by this operation were horrendous and could be smelled a mile away if downwind. Well, one hot summer day my job required me to stop by the rendering plant to deliver an important document. It was around noon time and I found the company office closed. I guessed that they closed for the noon hour. In order to verify that and make an inquiry I then walked to the rear of the building where the dead animals were delivered. Upon walking in I saw a dead horse laying on the floor and a workman was sitting on the horse and partaking of his packed lunch. In the course of a short conversation I mentioned to the workman the incongruity of him eating his lunch in such a malodorous place. He responded, "After long term exposure he no longer found the odor particularly noticeable". A similar situation is certain to in play for a man who sleeps with a woman who is a human sulfide gas factory. He simply has acclimated to the stench and finds that it does not repel him. By the same token the woman who is generating this gas fog will also not find it object able.
