Subj : COM (Win32) sucks super hard To : All From : Blackdiamond Date : Thu Jan 21 2021 20:39:28 I'm curious, any of you greybeards know anything about COM (Component Object Model) in Windows? I'm a pretty young/fresh developer (25yo) and I'm mostly familiar with more modern languages and frameworks; web dev with AngularJS and desktop dev with C# (WPF/UWP/Unity3D). COM is... practically an alien language. I've been working with it for about 18 months now and I'm a lot more capable, but jesus christ, how did you guys get anything done with this stuff? It's so arcane and full of quirky little gotchas that aren't documented well at all. I struggled hard when I first came across it. I'm a lot more comfortable now but I can't imagine being a dev for it with only reference books for help. Praise be unto Google. Anyone with actual fond feelings towards COM? --- þ Synchronet þ Auntie Bodies BBS - auntibodiesbbs.themuldoons.co.uk * Origin: Vertrauen - [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.net (1:103/705) .
