But that is a matter of luck, not of how the algorithm works. In the past when Fidonet had 6 zones and for instance you had a node number in Zone 1 and in an othernet Zone 8, and replied to someone in Zone 5 or 6, you would have replied from your Zone 8 othernet address... :-( So if someone decides to create an othernet Zone 5 or 6, which is a bad idea, but they could, because the numbers are no longer used, your nearest-zone matching would cause netmail issues...
