I didn't suggest that you initialize a new git repo.

I just recently went throug this exercise with Nightfox and we got it resolved
by using the text.h file that's included in Git (or in your case, extracted from the SBBS source archive you downloaded) and disabling the "textgen" project. Search for those messages here where we discussed that not very long ago.
