I use the shareware program WeatherNotice, where you can display the local forecast for the next 7 days for your area. The downside of that is that you have to enter the data manually...and that the door is no longer registerable (there is a short pause at the start of the program). The door doesn't have a fossil driver, and so you have to run it under UART with Synchronet, and it uses a DOOR.SYS dropfile. Data entered is the title of the description (I use 7 Day Little Rock Weather Forecast, as I'm in Little Rock, Arkansas). Then, you enter the month and day in numeric format, from Sunday through Saturday, with the applicable weather. Your choices (limited to 9 characters) are: 1) Sunny 2) Cloudy -- I also use it for Ptly Cldy, PtlySunny, Mrng (morning) Fog 3) Showers -- I also use it for Drizzle. 4) Rain 5) Storms -- The graphic is the same for rain, so I rarely use it. 6) T-Storms -- The graphic has a flashing lightning bolt -- Used for either Thndrstms, Stg Tstms, or Severe Wx (for strong thunderstorms approaching severe limits, as defined by the US National Weather Service), or Severe Weather (tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds). 7) Snow -- Used for Lgt (light) Snow or Flurries. 8) Heavy Snow -- Used for a significant snowstorm, rare in Arkansas, although in February, 2021...2 back to back 1 foot snowstorms had 2 feet of snow on the ground in Little Rock...much of the state was shut down for a few days. 9) Sleet -- Used for sleet or an Ice Storm (Frzg (freezing) Rain). 10) Windy -- I use Breezy if gusts are at 20 mph, but Windy at 25 mph or higher. If it's above 40 mph, I'll use VeryWindy. 11) Christmas -- Used for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. 12) Halloween -- Used on October 31. 13) Valentine -- Used on February 14. 14) July 4th -- Used for major US holidays. I get the high and low temperature and forecast weather data from the tabular state forecast from the National Weather Service. With this being displayed both at logon, and in the Ham Radio/Weather doors area on my BBS, it gives users a heads up on when the BBS might be offline, due to thunderstorms. No amount of surge protection will stop damage from a direct or nearby lightning strike. Daryl ....
