the above error occurs because an auth login needs to be issued before
an starttls.

creating an smtp log locally during each step of the telnet session
while connected to the smtp server will help find out, what command
wcsmtp crashes on. I going to assume starttls because when tls is check
wcsmtp crashes.

I'm not 100 percent sure but i dont think cram-md5 is authing correctly
for gmail; not sure if it has to do with the starttls. 

an error handling trap needs to be added in order to stop the crash.
