MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Edith's Sugar Cookies
 Categories: Cookies, Snacks
      Yield: 10 Servings
 
      1 c  Shortening
      1 c  Sugar
      1 lg Egg
      1 ts Vanilla
      2 c  Flour
    1/2 ts Baking soda
    1/2 ts Cream of tartar
    1/4 ts Salt
 
  Cream the shortening and sugar.
  
  Add the egg and vanilla and beat hard and fast until
  fluffy.
  
  Add the dry ingredients and mix.
  
  Take pieces of dough and roll into 1" balls. Set about
  2" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  
  Smash each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in
  sugar.
  
  Add colored sugar to the top of each cookie.
  
  Bake for about 10 minutes @ 350ºF/175ºC or until very
  light brown on the edges.
  
  Yield: serves 10
