Subj : Scroll wheel/ball oddity To : All From : bp@www.zefox.net Date : Mon Aug 26 2024 03:53:15 For some time now I've used a scroll wheel mouse with RasPiOS. Scrolling down on a page is prone to getting stuck, but scrolling up on a page has always worked without fail, at least comparatively. The first mouse to display this behavior was a very old Dell, and I found that spraying the rotary encoder (which is likely a switch) with contact cleaner made the trouble go away for a few weeks or a month. I took the problem to be with the switch.... Lately I've been using an Apple mouse with a trackball on top. To my surprise, the behavior is quite similar: Scrolling the window down on a page is prone to getting stuck, scrolling up is much more reliable. The Apple mouse is very different from the Dell so I'm reluctant to take it apart and explore. Both Dell and Apple mouse scrolling seemed to work well initially and became erratic scrolling down a page after some weeks of use. That makes me wonder if software is doing something adaptive. The mouse and keyboard settings under the Raspberry icon don't have many options, are there any other ways to see/tinker with mouse behavior? Changing the mouse tracking from slow to fast doesn't make any obvious difference. The behavior didn't change noticeably in the switch from Bullseye to Bookworm (64 bit).
