I usually tell people to start with books that cover the basics, kind of like those tutorials you mention, then try to keep moving toward more involved books. I don't know much about the programming language that Mystic offers, you'll have better luck discussing that aspect in the MYSTIC echo... Now over here, I run BBBS and its programming language uses features of C, Pascal and perl... (just enough to keep it confusing ) but with my knowledge of those languages, I was able to use BBBS' language to create some utilities, modify some ANSI games to use under BBBS, etc. Good luck to you, and don't give up...
