Subj : Welcome the New Moderator To : ALEX GALIYEV From : Mike Powell Date : Sun Jun 01 2025 10:06:00 > MP> This change takes effect immediately. > The transfer of power in monarchy style. "Here is your new King, I decided so, > so live with it". In FIDO, unless it is a sysop echo, that is usually how it happens. Either: (1) The moderator tires of moderating and asks someone else to do it; (2) The moderator tires of moderating and someone volunteers; (3) The moderator tires of moderating, says nothing, and the echo is eventually delisted and dies off -- or continues unmoderated (but probably with broken links). You can substitute "leaves the network," "takes their BBS down," "dies," etc., for "tires of moderating" into any of those three scenarios, too. In this case, scenario #2 happened. I said I was going to retire and de-list the echo, and Gregory was the first person to volunteer. Now, there are some people who, had they volunteered, I would have turned them down because I have watched how they interact with persons who don't share their views. Having them moderate would have killed the echo. Gregory, in past, has had some decent interactions with persons who don't agree with him, so I was persuaded to let him take it over. There are not that many sysops left who want to moderate an echo, and even fewer who'd want to moderate a "politics" echo. So, if you get a decent volunteer, you realize that is rare and you take them up on it.
