I might be crazy, or not understanding something correctly, but I believe that my city has raised my property taxes (this year) by 50%!

I'm positively thinking that this is some kind of mistake. I don't get tax bills, because my mortgage lender pays my taxes for me through an escrow account. But they sent me a letter saying that my payment is set to increase by $100 per month and that equates to about a 50% increase.

I did a Google search and NY gov/lunatic Kathy Hochul said that "If Trump abolishes the Dept of Education then you can expect your property taxes to go up to cover the lost money."

So I'm left wondering "Why did they already go up 50% if the Dept of Ed. hasn't even been abolished yet?"

Has anyone else seen a ridiculous increase in property taxes this year? (And I mean like really, really ridiculous?)

Let me know because I swear I need to get the hell out of this state!
