But that's what the "Check Engine" light is.  It boils down all that stuff and
is telling you to check the engine.

The real problem here is that it's not a "Check Engine" light.  It's a "Bring
your car to a mechanic" light - but that's too much text to display.  :)

If you had an ODB2 reader, you could plug that in and it would tell you why the
"Check Engine" light is on.  But most people don't have those.
