I've looked at this too.  IHMO this was just wilful blindness.  They didn't
want to accept what the warning signs said.

It's easy to recognize the warnings AFTER the fact.  But it's must harder to
recognize them before.

But, then, we don't know what people were thinking at the time.  So it remains
speculation.

Yup.  That's always been their plan.

Another part of the plan.  Make things so bad that Trump spends the next 4
years just fixing things and not making meaningful changes (like dismantling
the Bureaucracy).
