Considering that he seemed to understand the mistakes of his predecessor(s)
I actually had better hopes for him.

Well, remember several months back when Adams went off script and was
critical of his party's immigration policies, and maybe some other things?
I think you and I had a conversation back then where we speculated that he
would eventually be railroaded for it.

Maybe "eventually" has become the present.
