It didn't happen often, if at all, at my "city" school.  A friend, who
attended a "more rural" school, saw it more often and probably even had one
in his car at some point.  They didn't take them out and into the schools
and, you are correct, they were for hunting.

At my school, the administration would have freaked out about it, even if
they were for hunting and didn't enter the building.
