This would have been before I ever heard of WWF.  The show was on for an
hour in the 1970s/early 80s and supposedly originated out of Memphis.  I
think they were called "Southern" or "Southeastern" or something.

This would have been the same group that had Jerry "The King" Lawler and
would have been back in the time when Andy Kaufman was trying to wrestle a
woman.
